Zazzle Featured Seller Interview with Sarita_K
by Jes, Zazzle Community Producer
New Zazzler Sarita, from the Artsprojekt store sarita_k, talks with us about her artistic inspirations and what she’s looking forward to. Check out the interview below and don’t forget to check out her store sarita_k!
Zazzle: Give us a brief bio, where you’re from and when you started making art.
Sarita: I studied my art education at San Jose State University’s School of Art and Design in California, where I graduated with a BFA in Animation and Illustration in 2007. After graduation, I worked in Seattle, Washington for ArenaNet and gained valuable experience working on the game, Guild Wars 2 as an Environment Artist. Eventually moved back to Dubai and began working as a full-time illustrator and concept artist. Currently, I’m working at a casual gaming studio and will have two ipad games releasing soon. In addition to gaming, I also love illustrating children’s books and will have my first e-book published very soon.
Zazzle: What is your inspiration for your designs?
Sarita: A lot of my work is inspired by animals and nature; I think they’re wonderful creatures and I’m just in awe of their beauty and tenderness. When I lived in the Bay Area, I used to visit the San Francisco Zoo often and draw the animals – my favorite were the polar bears because they were so playful! I also love watching the National Geographic Channel, and there’s always something in there that instantly inspires me, whether it’s an elephant or a cute little beetle. Plus, I think animals a great way to connect with children, whether is trying to get a message across or reading them a story.
Zazzle: When you’re not creating art, what are your other hobbies?
Sarita: I’m a movie-junkie and love going for film festivals whenever I can. I also swim and play guitar regularly.
Zazzle: Any artists you look up to when ti comes to designing?
Sarita: Wow, there’s so many! But some of my favorites are Lisa Frank, Pascal Campion, Daniel Krall, Charuca Vargas, Sam Bosma, Jon Klassen, Buff Monster and Daniel Dociu.
Zazzle: What is your favorite Zazzle feature? How do you use it?
Sarita: Tweetfering! – You can really use it to promote your products directly. It’s a great way to market yourself!
Zazzle: What has been your favorite design you’ve created, and why?
Sarita: My favorite design so far has been “Dragon Love”. It’s this cute little dragon I made that can’t breathe fire, but only exudes little hearts from her mouth. This piece was inspired by a crush I have on someone. lol!
Zazzle: What was the very first thing you made on Zazzle?
Sarita: The first thing I made on Zazzle was my Capricorn Mug – I thought it would be a fun illustration to start with!
Zazzle: Being a newer seller on Zazzle, what are you looking forward to the most?
Sarita: Getting more recognition and also being able to put my designs on new products! I was so excited when Zazzle started offering iPad and iPhone cases, and I can’t wait to see what’s coming next!
Zazzle: What got you interested in selling your art on Zazzle?
Sarita: I was actually invited to join ArtsProjekt, and I noticed how many phenomenal artists were posting their work on Zazzle. I knew I had to be a part of that! Plus it’s a great platform to market yourself and also make a some money too!
Zazzle: What tips can you give someone who is just starting out on Zazzle?
Sarita: Be sure to check out Zazzle University! I was really lost when I first joined, but once I thoroughly read through all the tutorials and I was able to get around much better.

Zazzle Gets It’s Skate On With Tony Hawk Foundation
Is that Tony Hawk, the most famous skateboarder in history, showing off a Zazzle skate deck? Why YES, it is! In fact, Zazzle just teamed up with Tony Hawk Foundation to auction off thirty “Create Your Own Pro Model” decks at two successful fundraising events during its 8th Annual benefit. Our made-to-order-technology allowed Tony Hawk and team to offer the decks to lucky auction winners, who will have their own names applied to the Zazzle decks during production, effectively creating their own pro skateboard models endorsed by Tony Hawk Foundation. The two events raised almost $1.4 million, and the Zazzle decks at each event sold out in minutes!
Zazzle is proud to support Tony Hawk Foundation celebrity fundraisers to benefit Stand Up For Skateparks, a non-profit which has raised $5 million dollars to build high-quality skateparks in nearly 500 low income areas around the US.
The first of two DaGeDar Presents Stand Up For Skateparks benefits took place Sunday October 6th at the home of Ron Burkle, Green Acres Estate, in Beverly Hills, California. Within the span of an hour, a Vert Demo with Tony Hawk, Shaun White, Bucky Lasek, Mat Hoffman, Mitchie Brusco, and Lincoln Ueda was followed by an intimate set by the Grammy-winning duo The Black Keys. In addition to the Vert Demo and The Black Keys performance, the family-oriented event featured interactive activities for kids of all ages, great food, and live and silent auctions. Auction items included a custom Triumph Scrambler 900 “Hawkized” by Roland Sands Design, a Tony Hawk Edition Customized Ford Explorer by Galpin Auto Sports and DUB, and autographed skateboard decks from Tony Hawk and other top pros like Chris Cole, Ryan Sheckler, Nyjah Huston, and Shaun White. Other auction items included a Kelly Slater-autographed surfboard, as well as autographed guitars from Jane’s Addiction, Green Day, and Rancid, plus luxury vacations and much more.
The Beverly Hills benefit raised $755,000 for the Tony Hawk Foundation’s mission to build free public skateparks in low-income areas, providing local, at-risk youth an opportunity to participate in a fun, safe and healthy new activity.
DaGeDar Presents Stand Up For Skateparks was Co-Chaired by Tony Hawk and fellow THF Board Member and skate legend Mike Vallely, with other notable supporters including Andre Agassi, Michael “Flea” Balzary, Ron Burkle, Chantal and Stephen Cloobeck, Jamie Lee Curtis, Patrick Dempsey, Jon Favreau, Perry Farrell, Leeza Gibbons, Brian Austin Green, Robin and Danny Greenspun, Ben Harper, Mat Hoffman, Terry Kennedy, Anthony Kiedis, Bobby Kotick, Chuck Liddell, Howie Mandel, Sal Masekela, Lance Mountain, Andrew and Trina Pascal, Andrew Reynolds, David Spade, Bill Walton, and Shaun White.
“It was our best event by far,” said Tony Hawk. “The auction items were one-of-a-kind, and the skate demo was one of the best sessions I have ever witnessed (or taken part in). The Black Keys were the icing on the cake—the crowd was in awe.”
Many celebrities and their families were among the guests in Beverly Hills, including Mark Wahlberg, Jon Favreau, Jamie Lee Curtis, Bill Walton, Perry and Etty Farrell, Chuck Liddell, Kat Von D, Mike ”Rooftop” Escamilla, Fred Durst, Rob Machado, Tillman the Skateboarding Dog, dance troupe Chi-Town’s Finest Breakers, Kevin Staab, Jason Ellis, Jamie Thomas, Stevie Williams, Holly Robinson Peete, Lance Mountain, Chris Cole, Stefan Lessard, Rodney Mullen, and Legoland’s Darth Vader.
